Hurricane Polo brings dangerous rip currents, flooding and erosion threat to SoCal

– If you are thinking about heading to the beach, you might want to reconsider — along with big waves, Hurricane Polo could bring dangerous rip currents, flooding and more erosion to Southern California.

Warning areas and potential impact

High sand berms line up the shoreline, protecting homes in Seal Beach as residents there prepare for another storm heading their way.

Although SoCal shores will not get hit directly by Hurricane Polo, heading towards Mexico, its impact will still be felt in our region, especially at south-facing beaches.

Those areas could see waves up to 7 feet tall or higher in the coming days.

Flooding, high surf and dangerous rip currents are expected, along with seeing more beach erosion.

Residents preparing for the upcoming storm are hoping the built-up sand berms and other preparations make a difference this time around.

"I think they're gonna hold, because we weren't prepared, I don't think Seal Beach was prepared for the last one," said area resident Susana Villalon.

"If you go down to Aliso Creek Beach, you can see how much the sand disappeared," said Laguna Beach resident Trish Sweeney.
