Shooter opens fire on car on 5 Freeway in Sun Valley, shattering driver’s-side window

SUN VALLEY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A shooter opened fire on a car in the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway in Sun Valley, shattering the vehicle's front driver-side window, authorities said.

Victims and police response

The driver and passenger escaped injury, according to the California Highway Patrol. The shooting was reported shortly after 10:30 p.m., a CHP spokesperson said.

The number of shots fired was unclear, but news video from the scene appeared to show at least four bullet holes in one of the sedan's shattered windows.

Shooting investigation

The driver exited the freeway and pulled over on Sheldon Street, where responding officers began their investigation.

A description of the shooter was not available. The motive for the shooting was unknown.
