Video: ABC Audio Glitches Disrupt Texas–Tennessee After Report on Trump Visit

ABC’s broadcast of Texas’ game against Tennessee suffered audio problems Saturday, moments after Laura Rutledge discussed communication precautions surrounding President Donald Trump’s visit to Neyland Stadium.

Static and distorted sound interrupted Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit’s commentary during the first quarter. Fowler briefly handled the call alone while technicians worked on Herbstreit’s microphone.

Rutledge had been explaining efforts to coordinate radio frequencies and prevent interference between communication systems inside the stadium. Although the timing attracted attention online, a connection between Trump’s visit and the broadcast malfunction has not been established.

The commentators’ audio had improved by the start of the second quarter, according to Saturday Down South.
