Teams compete in O’Hare plane-pulling event to raise funds for Special Olympics

– Hundreds of people split up into teams to pull a plane at Chicago O'Hare International Airport on Saturday for the Special Olympics.

The event began with an opening ceremony followed by teams taking turns trying to move a United Airlines 737.

The plane weighs more than 95,000 pounds.

The goal is to pull it just 12 feet but do it as fast as fast as they can.

More than 110 teams are expected to compete on Saturday, with up to 20 people on each team.

To enter, each team had to raise at least $1,000, and that money goes to special Olympics Illinois, which provides sports programs for athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state.

This is the 18th year for the O'Hare plane pull. And for some pullers, it has become a tradition.
