Mount Etna Ash Halts Arrivals at Catania Airport in Sicily

All arriving flights at Catania Airport in Sicily were suspended Saturday after volcanic ash from Mount Etna and unfavorable weather conditions disrupted operations.

The suspension is expected to remain in effect until noon local time on Sunday. Departing flights were not included in the announced restriction.

Passengers were advised to check their flight status with their airline before traveling to the airport. Catania is Sicily’s busiest airport and one of Italy’s largest passenger hubs.
