A Southington man who used a social media application to engaged in conversations with an underage girl was sentenced to more than three years in prison for sexually assaulted her when they met in person.

“I never felt comfortable telling my parents the details of how Cody raped me,” the girl said.

Cody Cutler, 28, was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Tejas Bhatt to 10 years in prison, execution suspended after 40 months served, followed by 10 years of probation after a Rockville Superior Court jury found him guilty of second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor on July 15, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

Court records show that, on Dec. 18, 2020, Cutler met with an underage girl he had been talking to on Snapchat and reportedly sexually assaulted her.

According to court records, the girt immediately reported the assault and was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where physical evidence was collected that reportedly corroborated her accusation.

During the sentencing hearing, the girl, who testified at trial, described the impact the assault and court proceedings had on her mentally and physically.
