Phoenix teen arrested over viral ‘door kick challenge’ after $10,000 in damage

Phoenix police have arrested a 14-year-old boy accused of taking part in the viral social media “door kick challenge” after a home sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage.

Police said officers responded around 6:30 a.m. on September 12 to a criminal damage report near 44th Street and Thunderbird Road.

Investigators said two juveniles arrived in a red Ford truck, kicked in the front door of a residence and then fled.

Detectives later identified the teen believed to have kicked the door and determined that the truck used in the incident had been reported stolen from Scottsdale.

Police said investigators also uncovered evidence linking the suspect to another stolen vehicle.

The teen was taken into custody on September 23 and booked into the Durango Juvenile Detention Facility on one count of criminal damage and one count of unlawful use of transportation.

Phoenix police said the investigation is connected to the viral “door kick challenge,” in which participants kick or strike residential doors and post videos of the incidents online.
