Former Midstate high school booster club treasurer indicted for misappropriating thousands, comptroller says

The treasurer of a Middle Tennessee high school’s football booster club has been indicted for misappropriating thousands of dollars, according to the state comptroller’s office.

She faces one count of theft over $2,500 and one count of money laundering. Burton resigned in March 2025 following a booster club fundraiser.

“Investigators determined that Burton misappropriated club funds through Venmo between January 2024 and June 2025.

This included transferring money from the club’s Venmo account to her personal Venmo account, making a personal purchase with club funds, and retaining football fees that were paid directly into her personal Venmo account,” the press release said.

Between June 2025 and May 2026, the Midstate woman repaid $3,583.74, according to the state agency.

But as of July 2026, $2,028.70 has yet to be recovered.

Charges and court proceedings

The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office said Amber Burton was indicted by the Sumner County Grand Jury after investigators found she misappropriated at least $5,612.44 in funds from the Blue Devil Quarterback Club at White House High School.

The comptroller’s office received complaints about her and launched an investigation the same month, a press release said.
