Lawyers step up to stop scammers targeting St. Louis, Missouri tornado victims

Indeed, nearly a dozen of St. Louis’ best law firms have signed on to the Contractor Fraud Legal Task Force, including Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Thompson Coburn, Sandberg Phoenix, Husch Blackwell, Haahr Woods, and Capes Sokol.

And that was only the beginning. Retired federal prosecutor Jim Crow agreed to review the cases for potential criminality—-and a referral to local law enforcement when appropriate.

“It was interesting the reaction I got,” Vossmeyer says. “I mean, so many people wanted to do something, and this gave them an opportunity.”

Spencer, for one, couldn’t be more thrilled. “I am so grateful that this team of exceptional lawyers has stepped up to serve,” she says.
