A suspect was taken into custody after shots were reportedly fired at Miami International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a major law enforcement response.

Preliminary reports indicate the suspect allegedly fired a shot into the ground near the terminal area, but no one was struck.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies responded quickly and detained a subject. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Miami International Airport also confirmed that all passengers and employees are safe.

The departure-level roadway and the terminal area between Doors 12 and 17 were temporarily closed, with vehicle traffic diverted to the arrivals level.
