Russian Strike Hits Cargo Ship Near Odesa, Killing Captain

A Russian strike hit a foreign-flagged commercial cargo ship near Ukraine’s Black Sea ports overnight Wednesday, killing the vessel’s Ukrainian captain.

The ship, sailing under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, caught fire following the attack in Ukraine’s Odesa region.

Crew Evacuated From Burning Ship

The remaining crew members were evacuated with assistance from the Ukrainian Navy. Emergency teams later extinguished the fire.

Russian forces also struck port and civilian infrastructure in the region, setting fire to warehouses containing food, medicine and household products.

Authorities have not released the ship’s name or disclosed how many crew members were aboard.
