A woman in Texas was taken into custody after she demanded police shoot her while using her teenage daughter as a “human shield,” authorities said.
Tenescha Selena Henry, 35, found herself in a standoff with Houston-area authorities on July 20 following a 25-mile high-speed chase, according to a release from the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office.
Before coming to a stop, Henry’s “vehicle reached speeds exceeding 100 MPH, making multiple unsafe lane changes and traveling the wrong way,” the release read.
Deputies performed a felony stop of the vehicle, but Henry refused to comply and pulled a minor, identified as her 14-year-old daughter, from the vehicle, police said.
“The driver proceeded to place the juvenile in a choke hold and position them as a human shield,” according to the release.
“At that point, I 100% believed that we had a hostage situation,” Deputy A. Peters said, according to a Friday report. “I distinctly remember her at times saying, ‘Shoot! Shoot me! Shoot us!'”
“To put your own family member, not to mention your daughter, right in front of that potential danger is just kind of crazy to me.”
