Police use of deadly force under investigation in Kane County shooting

A use of deadly force investigation is underway in a police shooting last week at the intersection of Fabyan Parkway and Randall Road at the border of Geneva and Batavia.

 

Police shot and killed 38-year-old James Moriarty, Jr., of Aurora, after he allegedly had a handgun. A Kane County Sheriff’s Office K-9 named Hudson also died.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and State’s Attorney’s Office say that police had been pursuing Moriarty in an allegedly stolen vehicle until police had forced the vehicle to stop. K-9 Hudson was released when officers are said to have spotted a handgun and opened fire.
