Man killed and one injured in Kansas City double shooting

A double shooting in Kansas City on Monday afternoon left one man dead and another injured, according to police.

Police were called to the scene at about 2.45pm after two men were gunned down outside a house in the 1900s block of Mersington Court, a cul-de-sac of split-level housing in the East Community Team North neighbourhood.

Police found the two men with gunshot wounds and both were taken to a hospital, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department. The man with the most serious injuries died a short time later.

Detectives and crime scene investigators went to the scene and sought witnesses. Police did not immediately identify the victims or name suspects.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that both victims were standing there in front of the residence when they interacted with one or more suspects that led to shots fired and the victims were beaten,” Becchina said in an email.

The murder marked Kansas City’s 90th murder this year.
