Police identify Waterbury man, 26, killed in shooting

WATERBURY — Police have released the name of the man shot and killed early Sunday morning.

Waterbury police have identified the victim as 26-year-old city resident Akeem Campbell.

According to Waterbury Police Lt. Robert Davis, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of North Main and Division streets.

While at the scene, officers found an unoccupied car on the side of the road, Davis said.

Davis said Campbell was then discovered to have been taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital getting treatment for his gunshot wound.

Campbell died from his injuries at the hospital, Davis said.
