Findlay police apprehend suspect in school shooting threat investigation
Findlay, Ohio — A threat made on social media led to a swift response from law enforcement officers and the subsequent arrest of 22-year-old Chad Johnston Jr. at his residence.
The incident, which was reported on Friday at 1:50 p.m., targeted Jefferson Elementary located at 204 Fairlawn Pl. in Findlay.
Officers from the Findlay Police Department were dispatched to Jefferson Elementary following reports of concerning posts on Facebook indicating a potential shooting at the school. Upon their arrival, officers immediately engaged with school officials, who promptly implemented a lockdown protocol to ensure the safety of students and staff.
An intensive investigation was launched, ultimately leading the authorities to identify Chad Johnston Jr. as the suspect. Officers promptly proceeded to his residence, which was in close proximity to the school. After conducting an interview with the suspect, law enforcement placed him under arrest for making the threats.
While no firearms were found at Johnston Jr.’s residence, authorities seized several electronic devices as evidence. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to gather information and evaluate the nature of the online posts.
