Sunrise’s Edwina Bartholomew must apologize after family-friendly show broadcasts X-rated footage live on-air

Sunrise viewers were left blushing after the show aired a surprisingly racy segment on Monday morning.

During the family-friendly breakfast program, substitute hosts Edwina Bartholomew and Mark Beretta spoke with ornithologist Dr. Grainne Cleary about a captive breeding program and the difficulties of matchmaking in the avian world.

While Dr. Cleary was talking, images of several mating birds began to flash on the screen, sending Edwina and Mark into an awkward fit of laughter.

At the end of the segment, in an effort to calm herself down, Edwina told Dr. Cleary: ‘Thank you so much for coming this morning’

“And apologies to the viewers who had to explain that vision to their kids watching this morning,” she said through tears of laughter.

Mark then explained the situation to Dr Cleary, who was unaware of the confrontational footage viewers had just seen.

“As you spoke, we had great matchmaking moments from birds around the world on screen. It was a wildlife experience this morning,” he said.

Edwina, still crying with laughter, then turned to Mark and joked, “Those eagles got along really well.”

“The ibises surprised me!” Mark mused.

The awkward moment came just days after Sunrise viewers slammed the new host Mylee Hogan jokingly claimed that cricketer Glenn McGrath had died during a segment on a twisted TikTok fat.

The cruel craze on the social media platform sees children filming their parents’ shocked reaction when they are falsely told that a favorite celebrity has suddenly passed away.

Hogan – granddaughter of Australian icon Paul Hogan – gleefully reported on the viral trend on Wednesday before stand-in host Mark Beretta prematurely ended the report.

“That might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen,” Mark said. ‘I don’t like it at all. We shouldn’t. Take it off. Take it off now.”

But when Mark moved on to talk to former Australian fast bowler McGrath about the Boxing Day Test, Hogan blurted out: ‘Glenn McGrath is dead!’

The comment, which was off-camera but heard clearly, prompted an angry response from Mark and co-host Edwina Bartholomew.

“Not even… that’s not funny,” Edwina said as Hogan laughed. Mark added, “I don’t get that at all. It’s so not funny. It’s crazy…”

A stern-faced Edwina immediately apologized to the viewers, adding, “It’s not funny. Sorry.
