TV and radio presenter Yumi Stynes has filed an AVO against her ex-husband, claiming in a police complaint that his alleged behavior has caused her to fear for her safety.
Stynes announced her divorce from her second husband, Martin Bendeler, after nine years of marriage last October.
The former Channel [V] host married Bendeler in 2012 and they share two children, daughter Mercy and a son whose name has never been publicly revealed.

A provisional AVO with standard terms has been granted ahead of a court hearing on January 11 to decide whether to make the AVO final.
It is understood that the former couple were trying to raise their two children together until Stynes, who co-hosts a radio show on KIIS FM, lodged the complaint with the police.
Under the terms of the AVO, Bendeler may not pursue, assault or threaten Ms. Stynes or willfully destroy property or harm animals that belong to her.
He has not been charged with doing any of these things and was not in court when the preliminary injunction was approved on Tuesday.
Stynes broke down in tears live on KIIS FM’s 3PM Pick-Up in late October 2021 as she shared heartbreaking details of the split.

Stynes announced that she had separated from her second husband, Martin Bendeler, last October after nine years of marriage
She said she had moved out of the marital home and into her own apartment and told her co-hosts that being a single mother for the second time was daunting.
“I’m going through a divorce right now and there are kids involved and my ex is involved so I don’t want to say anything that hurts these people,” she said.
“I’ve had to find an apartment, move my stuff, all my junk is in boxes and bags… I had to change my address, throw away the keys that don’t work anymore…
‘It’s been a lot. I moved house for the weekend and I feel like I am now starting my new life as a single mom. Here I am again.’

Stynes told listeners late last year that she wasn’t ready to tell the full story of the breakup, but expects to process her grief for another year
Stynes said she wasn’t ready to tell the full story of the split just yet, but expects to process her grief for another year.
“I have hundreds and thousands of words to say, but I don’t think I’m ready yet,” she told listeners.
Breakups are not over anytime soon. I’ll probably be in this process for another year… I’ll probably be up and down in the future.”
Stynes and Bendeler married in 2012, after she proposed to him on February 29, which is traditionally a leap day when women propose to men.
She was previously married to Ben Ely of Australian rock band Regurgitator from 2000 to 2008. They have two older children; Anouk and Dee Dee.

Stynes wrote an article for the ABC in 2020 on how to stay friends with an ex-partner based on her experience co-parenting with Ely.
She encouraged people to “separate for a while when it first happens, encourage mutual respect and push the boundaries of your relationship.”
“Breaking up ‘good’ isn’t something you think about when you’re in the trance of new love,” she wrote.
“And when it all falls apart, there’s no need to stay nice — unless you’re sharing something important, like a business, friends, a creative project, or, in our case, kids.”
