FAA ground stops hit Newark, Philadelphia and Teterboro amid communications outage

The Federal Aviation Administration imposed ground stops at Newark Liberty International, Philadelphia International and Teterboro airports on Monday after communications problems affected some frequencies at the Philadelphia air traffic control facility.

The outage caused significant delays across the busy Northeast airspace, with Newark reporting departure delays stretching beyond two hours as the disruption continued.

The FAA said the problem involved some frequencies at Philadelphia TRACON, the facility responsible for guiding aircraft approaching and departing several airports in the region.

Flight disruptions also rippled through the wider New York-area airspace. However, the latest FAA advisory specifically confirmed ground stops for Newark, Philadelphia and Teterboro rather than JFK and LaGuardia.

Authorities were working to restore normal operations while airlines adjusted schedules and passengers faced continued delays.
