Luxembourg Deploys Foreign-Supplied Drone Detection Systems After Airport Shutdown

Luxembourg has deployed additional drone detection systems, including equipment supplied by foreign partners, following unidentified drone activity that forced Luxembourg Airport to temporarily suspend operations on Friday night.

Authorities strengthened surveillance around the airport and other sensitive locations as investigations continue into the unauthorized drones spotted near and over Findel.

The airport shutdown resulted in 19 flights being diverted to other airports before operations resumed at around 1:20 a.m. after security inspections found no immediate threat to aviation.

Luxembourg’s government said authorities are continuing to analyze the incidents in cooperation with international partners.

The deployment of additional detection equipment marks a new security measure following the airport disruption as officials work to identify the origin and operators of the drones.
