Update: Papua New Guinea Earthquake Upgraded to Magnitude 6.4

The earthquake that struck Papua New Guinea on Sunday evening has been upgraded to magnitude 6.4, after earlier preliminary estimates placed it lower.

The quake struck at about 7:17 p.m. local time on September 20, with the epicenter located roughly 49 kilometers north-northeast of Kainantu.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 104 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.

The magnitude, depth and exact location may still be revised as seismic agencies continue reviewing the data.
