Widespread power outage: report details

Many residents throughout the East Bay experienced a power outage that was estimated to affect over 13,000 Rhode Island Energy customers on Saturday morning.

The outage primarily affected the three Bristol County towns of Barrington, Warren and Bristol, though some East Providence houses were left without power as well.

Power has since been restored to many of these homes, though some customers, mainly in Barrington, remain without power.

According to Rhode Island Energy, a transformer malfunction in the area was responsible for the outages, and crews are currently working to fix the issue. A spokesperson said Rhode Island Energy expects most customers to regain power before 1 p.m.
