State Police investigating a trooper involved shooting in the Town of Cairo

New York State Police said a man was shot and killed by a trooper after allegedly pointing what appeared to be a handgun during an assault response in Cairo.

Troopers responded at about 8:22 p.m. Sept.

14 to Whip O Will Campground at 644 Route 31 in the Town of Cairo for a report of an assault involving two males.

Police said they found the assault victim with a head injury, and the victim directed troopers to a nearby camper.
