52-Year-Old Man Arrested Over Suspected Wildfires in Southern Albania

A 52-year-old man has been arrested in southern Albania after police said he was found near several wildfire hotspots in the Borsh area of Himarë.

The man, identified by authorities by his initials as D.Z., is suspected of deliberately starting several fires that spread across forest and pasture areas, burning significant stretches of land and putting a nearby home at risk.

Police officers from the Himarë station responded to the scene alongside firefighters and began an investigation into the cause of the fires.

Authorities said they found the suspect near the fire hotspots and arrested him on suspicion of destroying forests and forested environments by fire.
