UPDATE: Heavy Rain Hits NYC as Flood Watch Remains in Effect Through Noon

Heavy rain is moving across New York City this morning, with the greatest risk of flash flooding expected through the late morning hours, city officials said.

A Flood Watch remains in effect until noon Sunday, with rainfall totals of 1.25 to 1.75 inches expected across the city. Locally higher amounts are possible where heavier downpours develop.

Flooding risk continues across New York City

Periods of intense rainfall could quickly overwhelm drainage systems and cause flooding on streets, particularly in low-lying and poor-drainage areas, underpasses and neighborhoods with a history of flooding.

Residents are being urged to avoid flooded streets and use additional caution while traveling.

Drivers should never attempt to drive through floodwater, as water depth and road conditions can be difficult to determine.

Conditions expected to improve this afternoon

The heaviest rain and highest flooding risk are expected to continue through late morning before conditions gradually improve during the afternoon.
