600-acre wildfire reported at Davy Crockett National Forest
A 600-acre fire has been reported at the Davy Crockett National Forest by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service (USDA Forest Service).
As of 5 p.m., the USDA Forest Service is reporting that the fire is at 40% containment and that firefighting crews are conducting firing operations that are 50% complete.
The release said that the nearest roads to the fire are Elmer Smith Road, Forest Service Road 502 and FM 358. The nearest town is Pennington, Texas.
The report said that firing operations are an essential firefighting tool as emergency crews can use existing defensible control features, such as roads and dozer lines, to remove unburned vegetation that could otherwise fuel the wildfire.
