Kentucky has largest measles outbreak since the 90s, officials say

Kentucky has now seen 45 measles cases as of Sept. 11, primarily in close-knit communities with low vaccination coverage.

Health officials believe there are likely more cases than have been reported.

According to the Kentucky Department for Public Health, the state is currently experiencing the largest measles outbreak reported in the commonwealth since 1991.

Since announcing the Kentucky outbreak in August, officials have confirmed five cases in Barren County; two cases in Caldwell County; 18 cases in Christian County; four cases in Jessamine County; two cases in Owen County; one case in Todd County; eight cases in Trigg County; and five cases in Washington County.
