Small plane crashes near Richmond airport

A small plane overshot a runway at a Richmond airport Wednesday morning, damaging the aircraft and a fence, according to the Richmond-Carolina Fire District chief.

The chief said a 911 call reporting a plane down came in at about 11:40 a.m.

Richmond police said the Piper Cub plane traveled past the end of the runway while landing at Richmond Airport and came to rest nose down on Heaton Orchard Road.

When emergency crews arrived, the two occupants, a man and a woman, had already gotten out of the plane on their own. No injuries were reported.
