U.S. Strikes Two Iranian Tankers Under New “Tanker for Tanker” Policy

The U.S. military attacked two Iranian government tankers during Tuesday’s round of strikes, according to American officials cited by Axios.

U.S. drones reportedly launched missiles that struck the vessels’ engine rooms while they were anchored off Iran’s coast, north of the American naval blockade line.

Trump Approves “Tanker for Tanker” Policy

A U.S. official said the operation was carried out under a new “tanker for tanker” policy approved by President Donald Trump.

The policy is intended to deter further Iranian attacks on commercial tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

IRGC Military Sites Also Targeted

The wider operation targeted approximately 100 sites, including Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps air-defense positions, radar systems, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities.

Anti-ship cruise missile launchers and attack-drone launchers were also among the targets, according to U.S. officials.

Casualties Not Disclosed

The identities of the two tankers and the full extent of the damage have not been released. No information about possible casualties among their crews was immediately available.
