Explosive Devices Found at Jänschwalde Power Substation in Brandenburg, Germany

Explosive and incendiary devices were discovered at a major electricity substation near the Jänschwalde power station in Brandenburg, Germany, after at least one detonation damaged the facility and a 500-megawatt generating unit went offline.

Police bomb-disposal specialists were deployed to the substation in Turnow-Preilack, where additional devices that had not detonated were found.

Homemade Projectiles Discovered

Grid operator 50Hertz said the devices appeared to be homemade projectiles resembling commercially available fireworks.

The operator reported a temporary interruption affecting power lines, but said the general electricity supply was not disrupted and the affected lines were returned to service.

Power station operator LEAG described the incident as a deliberate attack. Investigators are examining whether the damage caused the shutdown of Block B at the Jänschwalde plant.

Police Investigation Underway

Authorities have not identified a suspect or established a motive.

Brandenburg state premier Dietmar Woidke condemned the suspected attack, warning that attempts to sabotage critical infrastructure threaten society and public security.

Police said there was no immediate danger to residents.
