Tanker Hit by Unknown Projectile in Strait of Hormuz, UKMTO Says

STRAIT OF HORMUZ — A tanker was struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, sparking a fire aboard the vessel, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations.

Local authorities reported that the fire was subsequently extinguished. UKMTO classified the incident as an attack under Alert 121.

The tanker’s name, flag and precise location were not immediately disclosed.

Authorities are investigating the incident, while vessels operating in the area have been advised to exercise caution and report suspicious activity.
