Red Flag Warnings in Southern California Through Friday as Fast-Moving Fire Risk Rises

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Red Flag Warnings remain in effect across interior portions of Southern California until 3 p.m. PDT Friday, August 28, due to extreme heat, low humidity and gusty winds.

The warnings cover mountain and foothill areas of Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, along with the Cuyama Valley.

Critical Fire Weather Conditions

Temperatures could reach 98 to 108 degrees in lower mountain communities and adjacent foothills. Humidity may fall below 10%, while wind gusts could reach 35 mph.

Gusts approaching 40 mph are possible along the Interstate 5 corridor from Thursday night into Friday morning.

High Risk of Rapid Fire Spread

Officials warned that any fire could spread rapidly and exhibit extreme behavior. Residents should avoid activities that could create sparks and remain prepared to follow evacuation instructions from local authorities.
