Video: Tornado Damages Homes Near Carcassonne, France

CARCASSONNE, France — A tornado struck communities south of Carcassonne at around 5 p.m. local time Monday, August 24, damaging homes as violent thunderstorms swept through the Aude department.

Local media footage showed the tornado moving through the area and lifting debris into the air. The funnel developed near Couffoulens and the Limoux sector beneath a powerful supercell.
Severe storms sweep southern France
The storm also produced intense rain, frequent lightning and large hail, with hailstones measuring up to 5 centimeters reported near the tornado’s path.
Strong thunderstorms continued moving east across the Occitanie region following the tornado.
