Investigation underway following Facebook scam, multiple victims identified in Wythe County, Virginia

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. – Law enforcement is investigating a Facebook scam that has tricked multiple victims into financial contributions, the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office said.

WCSO said a fabricated story circulated on social media that included false information intended to deceive the public. The post persuaded people to make financial contributions.

As a result, authorities said they have issued multiple search warrants involving several social media accounts.

Investigators have identified multiple individuals who are believed to be responsible for the posts. They expect criminal charges later in the investigation.
