Thornton, Colorado police car hit by RTD train while responding to fatal shooting

THORNTON, Colorado — A crash involving a train and a marked Thornton police car and another car that hit a pole with two shooting victims has left a portion of Colorado Boulevard closed Friday morning.
Victims and police response
The marked police car was responding to the scene of a shooting that left one dead and one injured, Thornton police said.
In that incident, police say two people were found with gunshot wounds inside a car that crashed into a pole at East 97th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.
The person who was injured has been taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Thornton Police Department car, which was unoccupied, was hit by the train at about 6:35 a.m.
It appears the police cruiser was on the train tracks, with its emergency lights activated. The Regional Transportation District halted N Line operations.
“The RTD train has minor damage,” according to the Colorado State Patrol. “All passengers were removed, placed on RTD buses and left the scene.”
Shooting investigation
The officer had just arrived on the scene to assist with the investigation, according to the Colorado State Patrol. No injuries were reported from the crash.
