A man in his 80s with dementia has been referred to prosecutors for allegedly stabbing his wife and his son, the latter fatally, after they tried to stop him from going outside.

The suspect had been detained and referred to prosecutors on charges of murder and attempted murder, Gimje Police Station in North Jeolla said Thursday The suspect is accused of stabbing his wife and his son at their home in Gimje at around 5:47 a.m. on Aug. 11.

Investigators believe the suspect attacked his family after they tried to stop him from leaving the house. Police responded to a report from the son and arrested the suspect at the scene.
