CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – As the start of school is right around the corner, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed an outbreak of smallpox in southern Iowa Monday. Healthcare authorities also confirmed two cases of measles across the Mississippi River from Dubuque in Grant County, Wisconsin Tuesday.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) shows fewer Iowa kindergarteners have been vaccinated against measles every year since 2020. A greater number of families in the state are also opting for religious exemptions – which no longer requires notarization. Dr.
