Key Peninsula Fire Stopped by Local Resident: Latest Details
A large portion of Pierce County is unincorporated, including the Key Peninsula, where this recent fire took place, and even those with a Tacoma or other local city address can actually be outside city limits. As of Aug. 16, Tacoma, for example, has no burn ban currently.
Small recreational fires are still allowed within the city’s limits as long as the “smoke does not bother your neighbors” and as long as the Tacoma Fire Department Fire Safety or Puget Sound Clean Air Agency burn ban are not in effect.
Recreational fires within city limits still need to be safe, though, and should be three feet or less in diameter and two feet or less in height. An extinguisher with a rating of 4-A or greater or a charged hose with a nozzle attached should also be readily available.
