Tornado Warning for Charlottesville and Central Albemarle County as Rotation Moves Southeast

A Tornado Warning remains in effect for Charlottesville and central Albemarle County, Virginia, until 6:00 p.m. EDT Friday, as radar indicates strong rotation over the area.

The rotating storm was located near Charlottesville and moving southeast at around 25 mph, placing areas toward Monticello and Keswick in the path of the storm.

The warning also includes the possibility of ping-pong ball-size hail, which could cause damage to vehicles, roofs and exposed property.

Residents in the warned area should take shelter immediately on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, preferably in an interior room away from windows.

People outdoors or in vehicles should seek substantial shelter as quickly as possible and protect themselves from flying debris.

The storm is moving through a heavily populated area, and conditions may worsen rapidly.
