Flash Flooding Risk Increases Saturday Across Southern New Mexico and Far West Texas

Rain and thunderstorm chances are expected to increase Saturday across southern New Mexico and far West Texas, with heavy rainfall creating a risk of localized flash flooding.

The National Weather Service in El Paso says the Sacramento Mountains will see the greatest concentration of storms, while isolated thunderstorms are also possible across lower-elevation areas.

Some storms may produce heavy downpours capable of flooding low-lying and poor-drainage locations.

Temperatures are expected to remain hot, generally ranging from the upper 80s to the mid-90s across much of the region.

Areas including Las Cruces, Deming, Silver City, Alamogordo and El Paso could see isolated thunderstorms during the day, while the Sacramento Mountains face a higher chance of repeated storm activity.

Residents and drivers should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, especially in areas prone to flash flooding, and should never attempt to drive through flooded roads.
