Tasia Fortune Found Hanging From Tree in Mississippi; Man Questioned in Case Held on Gun Charge

Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old Black woman and mother of four, was found dead hanging from a tree behind a vacant home in Jackson, Mississippi, as investigators examine her death and her family demands answers.

Fortune’s body was discovered on August 3 behind a property in the 500 block of Road of Remembrance.

The Jackson Police Department described the case as an active death investigation. Her body was sent to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Terence Anderson Questioned by Detectives

Terence Anderson was interviewed in connection with Fortune’s death after telling investigators that he had argued with her.

Police said Anderson and Fortune had been in a relationship, although Anderson reportedly denied that claim and denied any involvement in her death.

Anderson lives near the location where Fortune was discovered.

Anderson Arrested on Unrelated Gun Charge

Anderson was arrested on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center. His bond was set at $250,000.

Authorities have not charged Anderson in connection with Fortune’s death and have not officially identified him as a suspect or person of interest.

Family Rejects Suicide Theory

Fortune’s mother, Christy Spivey, said her daughter was not suicidal and does not believe she took her own life.

Spivey last saw her daughter on July 26 following a family reunion in Kentucky and described her as emotionally well and devoted to her four children.

Calls for Federal Investigation

Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes has requested assistance from federal authorities as community members demand a transparent investigation.
