Three people were killed in a Monterey plane crash over the weekend when a small twin-engine aircraft plunged into the Pacific Ocean off the central California coast.

The U.S. Coast Guard said emergency crews responded just before 11:00 p.m. on Saturday to reports of a Beechcraft aircraft crashing about 300 yards off Point Pinos in Monterey County.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Unit identified the victims as Steve Eugene Clatterbuck, 60, of Salinas; James Vincent, 36, of Monterey; and Jamie Lee Tabscott, 44, of Monterey.

According to flight tracking data from FlightAware.com, the Beechcraft B-95-B55 aircraft took off from San Carlos Airport at 10:11 p.m. and was last seen at 10:36 p.m. near Monterey, shortly before it went down.

Investigators have not yet confirmed the cause of the Monterey plane crash, but federal aviation authorities are currently examining the wreckage and flight data.

The tragic incident has left the local community in mourning, as officials continue search and recovery efforts and seek answers to what caused the deadly crash.
