In a terrifying incident early Saturday, a car plows through a crowd in Los Angeles, injuring more than 20 people, with at least three reported in critical condition.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Vermont Avenue in East Hollywood. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the car struck a taco cart and continued into a large group of people gathered outside a local nightclub.

Authorities say the driver may have lost consciousness before veering off the road. A preliminary investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The LAFD confirmed the following injury breakdown:

  • 3 people in critical condition
  • 6 people in serious condition
  • 19 people with fair injuries

A total of 124 fire personnel responded to the scene to assist with emergency triage and transportation of the injured to local hospitals.

“LAFD is coordinating patient triage and transport at this time,” said Capt. Adam Van Gerpen, the department’s public information officer.

The crash has shocked the East Los Angeles community, particularly those in East Hollywood, where nightlife is typically bustling on weekend evenings. Authorities are reviewing security camera footage from nearby establishments and are speaking with eyewitnesses.

So far, no arrests have been made, and police have not released the identity of the driver.
