Emergency crews responded to a plane crash Saturday afternoon in a residential neighborhood in Simi Valley, where a small aircraft went down and struck two homes.
Ventura County Fire Department units were dispatched at approximately 1:51 p.m. to the 2300 block of High Meadow Street in the Wood Ranch community. Upon arrival, firefighters found a Van’s RV-10 aircraft, tail number N626PB, fully engulfed in flames after crashing into two structures.
The aircraft impacted homes at 230 and 238 High Meadow Street, with 238 sustaining the most significant damage. A second alarm was quickly called as the fire spread through both homes, prompting a large-scale response from fire crews.
The plane had been en route from Lancaster to Camarillo when it went down for unknown reasons. Firefighters aggressively attacked the flames and were able to achieve knockdown of the structure fires in about 20 minutes. Crews then transitioned to overhaul and search efforts to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to assess for any victims.
According to early reports from residents, all occupants of the affected homes made it out safely. Tragically, one person in the aircraft was pronounced dead at the scene.
The FAA and NTSB are expected to respond to the scene to conduct a full investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
