The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the deportation of Venezuelan immigrants

The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the deportation of Venezuelan immigrants detained in northern Texas, pausing any removals until a further decision is made.

The immigrants were being held under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, but the ACLU filed an emergency appeal, arguing the government was attempting to deport them without due process.

Earlier this month, the Court ruled that such deportations could only move forward if detainees were given a chance to challenge their removal in court and allowed a reasonable amount of time to do so.

The White House says it is confident in the lawfulness of the administrations actions after the ruling.
