Firefighters are battling a large blaze which broke out overnight as residents reported hearing an “explosion”, with fire chiefs ordering people to keep doors and windows shut.
Road closures are in place near the “large scale incident” in Violet Close, Newcastle, and the surrounding area after the fire broke out at around 12.45am. Engineers from Northern Gas Networks are at the incident with emergency services.
