Antioch Party: 18-year-old girl from Oakley identified as victim of deadly mass shooting

ANTIOCH — The Contra Costa County coroner’s office has identified the young woman killed early Sunday morning the deadly mass shooting at a birthday party in Antioch.

The coroner’s office said 18-year-old Oakley resident Nadia Itzel Tirado was the victim shot and killed in the mass shooting.

Shortly before 1 a.m., police received multiple 9-1-1 calls about a shooting incident at a home on the 3300 block of Sunset Lane, according to a press release from the Antioch Police Department. Additional reports indicated that several people were injured.

Officers were told that uninvited guests arrived at the meeting and started firing, causing panic. Tirado was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said the seven other victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled before police arrived.

Family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to cover funeral costs.

Bob Schaefer, who lives across the street, was awakened by the noise at around 1am.

“It sounded like four rounds of five shots, so I got up,” he said. “Kids were running down the street. Cars were going back and forth and about a minute later two police cars came up with their high beams on,” he told KPIX.

A man named Chris was staying with his elderly mother in a nearby house.

“You know, they run around the garden and all hell breaks loose,” he said. “People were running in all directions and it was chaotic. It was crazy.”

Schaefer says he’s just biding his time.

“Friends and family say, ‘Why the hell haven’t I left here yet?’” he said. “Hey, four years until retirement. I survived 23 years, what’s four more, huh?”

The shooting is the second mass shooting in the San Francisco Bay Area in just over 48 hours. Nine people were injured in a mass shooting at a neighborhood party in Mission District Friday night that is still being investigated by SFPD.
