Phoenix police shoot at man who ran from officers investigating stolen truck

A man was shot at by police early on Thursday near 92nd Drive and Lower Buckeye Road in Phoenix, police said.

At about 2 a.m. officers found a pickup truck stopped on the road with the driver passed out, according to Phoenix police spokesperson Sgt. Philip Krynsky. Police learned the truck was stolen and they blocked it in.

The driver woke up after the truck was blocked in and attempted unsuccessfully to drive away, Krynsky said. The man then tried to flee on foot. Krynsky said officers saw the man had a handgun as he ran into a nearby neighborhood. The man didn’t point the gun at officers.
