Man Dies During Church Standoff Near Round Top, Texas

A 56-year-old Houston man wanted for questioning in a homicide investigation died by suicide Tuesday during a standoff at St. Martin Catholic Church near Round Top, Texas, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said he forced a rideshare driver at gunpoint to take him from Houston to the church. The driver was released unharmed.

Officers negotiated with the armed man for several hours. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
