Nidal Hasan to face firing-squad execution after Trump approval

Nidal Malik Hasan, the former U.S. Army major convicted of carrying out the 2009 Fort Hood mass shooting, is set to face execution by firing squad after President Donald Trump approved the recommendation.
Hasan was sentenced to death in 2013 for the attack at Fort Hood, Texas, now known as Fort Cavazos.
The shooting killed 13 people and wounded more than 30 others.
The Pentagon said the execution recommendation was submitted through the Defense Department and approved by the president.
The Secretary of the Army will determine the time and location of the execution.
If carried out, it would be the first U.S. military execution since 1961.
Hasan is currently being held on military death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Further legal challenges could still affect the timing of the execution.
